UNPAID SALARIES: Nasarawa Workers Declare A Strike

UNPAID SALARIES: Nasarawa Workers Declare A Strike On Tuesday the Nasarawa State Joint Union of Local Government Employees declared strike over unpaid salaries by the State Government. Nasarawa state President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees  Abdullahi Adeka announced that in Lafia. He said: “The strike is necessitated by the inability of the state government to pay the workers their April and May salaries. The government left the union with no option than to embark on indefinite strike to press home its demands. The union had appealed to the government to pay them their outstanding salaries through many channels to avoid strike but the efforts proved abortive. Non-payment of the salaries had brought untold hardship to the workers. The union would set machinery in motion to monitor and ensure total compliance.” READ MORE: http://www.naij.com/452674-unpaid-salaries-nasarawa-workers-declares-strike.

For the second time in three days Sydney FC were beaten by a goal to nil, this time against the champions Chelsea in front of a record crowd of 83,598 at ANZ Stadium. But the Sky Blues will be far from disappointed with their showing, particularly when a late flurry of chances so nearly earned them an equaliser. Graham Arnold’s men were beaten by a stunning Loic Remy strike, who led the line of a near full-strength Chelsea side that included stars Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Nemanja Matic and John Terry. But Sydney gave an excellent account of themselves, particularly young Alex Gersbach down the left. In a moment he just might cherish for a while, the 18-year-old got the better of Cesar Azpilicueta at the byline, before cutting the ball back to Robert Stambolziev, who blazed his shot high and over. ...

BUT Dr David Nabarro says that stopping the deadly disease in Guinea will take more time because in some areas unsafe traditions still triumph over what's good for people's health. Nabarro said in an interview with The Associated Press on Monday that the Ebola epidemic "absolutely isn't over" though Liberia has been Ebola free since May 9. "We have cases occurring, not in huge numbers but enough to be very disturbing, in Sierra Leone and in Guinea," he said, and the situation in Guinea is especially troubling because surprise cases have been popping up that are not part of known chains of transmission.
