Kane said he is not aware of any approach from United but that he is flattered by hearing of their interest. “Obviously I am aware,” he said. “I have been watching Sky Sports and I have seen there is interest. But that is all I know. It is flattering for other clubs to maybe be interest...

U.S. inflation stirring as energy-driven price plunge ebbs

U.S. inflation stirring as energy-driven price plunge ebbs U.S. consumer prices in May recorded their largest increase in more than two years as gasoline prices surged, suggesting the drag on inflation from lower oil prices was fading. Other data on Thursday showed the economy was regaining momentum after stumbling in the first quarter. The number of Americans filing new applications for unemployment benefits fell last week to a near 15-year low and factory activity in the mid-Atlantic region accelerated to a six-month high in June. Price stability and a strengthening economy, highlighted by the tightening labor market, likely will push the Federal Reserve a step closer to raising interest rates later this year. Still, rate hikes will probably be gradual as a strong dollar continues to dampen underlying price pressures. ADVERTISING "We think inflation will grind higher over the summer and open the door to a September rate hike. At th...

US must face truth about guns: Clinton Hillary Clinton says the US has to face "hard truths" in the wake of the Charleston shooting. HILLARY Clinton says the US has to face "hard truths" about guns and race in the wake of a shooting at a black church in South Carolina. "HOW many innocent people in our country, from little children to church members to movie theatre attendees, how many people do we need to see cut down before we act?" the Democratic presidential candidate said during a speech in Las Vegas. Clinton was speaking at a meeting of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials, an event that afforded her the opportunity to campaign before a largely supportive crowd of Hispanic politicians. But campaign politics were overshadowed by the slaying of nine people at the Emanuel African Methodis...

President Muhammadu Buhari: Slow Or Strategic? By Peter Opatewa

President Muhammadu Buhari: Slow Or Strategic? By Peter Opatewa It is generally agreed that terrorism is one of the most critical issues in Nigeria, and a President who has so far taken swift, directed and spirited actions in that regard can hardly be regarded as slow or uncertain of how to solve the crucial problems facing his country. In the wake of the new administration, the nation was almost been grounded to a halt on account of the petroleum crisis with major oil marketers refusing to back down on their demands. The new administration engaged the independent petroleum marketers and an agreement was reached and because of that today’s fuel queues have greatly diminished in most parts of the country and the hardship of the masses has been abated. The pervading atmosphere in Nigeria’s socio-economic and political space is that of Change. The Change mantra has become the buzzword in the Nigerian social media arena with ingenious jokesters expanding their trade...
