Aussie skydivers break record in US

THE daredevils had been training at Perris Valley, outside of Los Angeles, since May 20 and made eight failed freefall formation attempts.
Late on Sunday afternoon, on their last chance, the 119 skydivers jumped from 5.8km above the Earth and came together to create an Australian record, beating the 112 set in 2010.
"After the jump, participants had a nail-biting wait for the judging, but confidence was high," team captain Greg Jack said.
"There were cheers, hugs, and wild celebrations as the seven planes did a formation fly-by to mark the achievement.
"Then the official word came through and the celebrations kicked in for real," he said.
The team came to California because the skydivers needed multiple planes equipped with oxygen and pilots skilled at keeping the aircraft close together for the jumps.
To break the record the participants must be in their specific pre-determined slot with the correct arm or leg grip and the formation must be held long enough for a photograph to confirm it.
