Six Killed In Burundi During Post- Election Violence

The violence comes as Burundi awaits results from its recent Parliamentary elections on Monday, which were boycotted by 17 opposition groups. On Monday, several polling stations were attacked with grenades.
In Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi, six people including a police officer have been killed during gun battles on Wednesday, according to reports.

The latest deadly clash took place after three grenades were thrown at a police patrol. Police said that they “neutralized” five members of an armed group in response to the attack.
Burundi has experienced unrest following the announcement that the President, Pierre Nkurunziza, would run for an unconstitutional third term. Bujumbura has been the location of the country’s strongest resistance to President Nkurunziza’s latest presidential campaign.
