Friend Indeed: 38-yr-old man nabbed for raping lover's 9-yr-old daughter
A man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 9-year-old daughter of his married lover.
A 38-year-old Imo State born business man, Cyprian Edundu, is in trouble for allegedly raping the nine-year-old daughter of his lover, as he was charged to Apapa Magistrate’s Court.
It
was gathered that the incident happened in October, 2014, at Semach
Street, Agric, Ojo area of Lagos State, where the suspect resides as
well as his lover, the mother of the girl, when he allegedly lured the
girl into his room and sexually assaulted her and warned the girl never to tell anyone about the act.
After
the first attack, Edindu reportedly tried to trick the girl into his
room for another round of sex and she promptly told her mom of the
attack from her lover.
The mother of the girl identified as Amaka, reported the assault at the Ojo Police Station and Edindu was arrested.
In
his statement to the police, Edindu denied the allegation, claiming
that he only sent the girl on an errand. He said there was a
relationship between him and Amaka, adding that the woman used to send
the girl to him whenever she needed money.
He said:
"I
merely sent her (the victim) on an errand. I didn’t rape her. Amaka,
her husband and I are very close. One day she (Amaka) came to my room
half-naked, asking for money. She seduced me one morning when she needed
N5,000. That was the first time we had sex. She sent her daughter to me
whenever she needed something."
Amaka, however, denied having extramarital affair with the suspect, but she admitted that she usually borrowed money from him.
"I
never went out with him (Edundu). Yes, I collected N5,000 from him, but
I paid him back. The first money I got from him was N1,000. He is just a
neighbour to me and nothing else."
The
police prosecutor, Inspector Olusoji Ojaokomo, told the court that a
medical test conducted on the girl at a general hospital in Lagos
revealed that her hymen had been ruptured, lending credence to the fact
that she was sexually molested.
When the charge
was read to the suspect, he pleaded not guilty and was admitted him to
bail in the sum of N100,000 by presiding magistrate, P.A. Adekomaya,
while the case was adjourned till June 10, 2015, for hearing.
